Higher Education Workers are Organizing!
AFSCME Higher Education United is a national movement of people working in higher education who are coming together to form unions at their workplaces. Members of AFSCME Higher Education United bring a powerful voice to improve working conditions and services at higher educational institutions across the nation.
We are 130,000 administrative, professional and technical staff, instructors, researchers, operations staff and safety personnel, and more.
We work at every type of public and private higher education institution in America:
- State systems and schools in California (including the University of California and California State University), Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan (including the University of Michigan and Michigan State), Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York (including SUNY & CUNY), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington.
- Medical Schools and University Health Systems including Oregon Health Sciences University, University of Massachusetts Medical School, University of California medical centers, University of Minnesota Medical Center, University of Maryland Medical Center, University at Buffalo Medical Center, Duke University Hospital.
- Private institutions like Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn, MIT, Princeton, Howard, Duke, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
- Community Colleges in 16 states.
As part of a national union that is 1.4 million members strong, our voices are amplified when fighting for higher education funding, access, and resources.
