Our Policy Priorities

AFSCME is a driver of change in higher education across the nation. AFSCME is a founding member of Higher Education Labor United (HELU), which calls for federal and state policies that: 

• Makes higher education a right, not a commodity.
• Establishes just and equitable working conditions on campus.
• Rebuilds and expands our country’s research infrastructure.
• Enshrines academic freedom, the right to learn, and free speech.
• Ensures shared governance among communities, workers, and students.
• Ends the crisis of student and institutional debt.
