"Through the strong advocacy of our union, the Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA/AFSCME L152), we successfully secured Temporary Hazard Pay (THP) of $10,000 to $20,000 for employees who continued to provide essential public services during the pandemic putting our own health –– as well as that of our loved ones –– at substantial risk to keep services running for the public.  This win recognized the risks we faced and ensured we were fairly compensated for our dedication and commitment to serving the community during challenging times. HGEA’s efforts to achieve THP demonstrated the union’s ongoing commitment to protecting worker safety, securing fair compensation, and standing up for the rights of Hawaii’s public employees."
